Introduction

Just like other tiger reserves, Kanha national park is also divided into core and buffer category. All safari zones under buffer category are called buffer safari zones of Kanha national park. In below given table, we have listed the names of all those buffer safari zones. As the name suggests, core zone area is central forest area where human disturbance is least, no commercial activity is ensured thus wild animals are more secure which means better animals sighting opportunity. Core zone shares its border with buffer zone only and not with rest of the world. The mixed land area, surrounding to core zone is called buffer zone where shares its inner border with core zone and outer border with rest of the world. Thus buffer zone plays very important role in wildlife conservation and their security. It gives cushioning effect to core zone thus their support can't be underestimated. It is mixed land in which villages and resorts are also located.

Same is the case with animals. They can't distinguish between core and buffer zone forests. In terms of conservation, buffer forest plays important role in protecting core forest area. While visiting Kanha national park, we should must do at least one safari in buffer zone for following reasons:

  • Birding: Buffer zone forest offers better birding than core zones. Many birds, insects, reptiles prefers to live in country side. Buffer zone offers both forest and country side atmosphere thus better place for such birds, insects, reptiles.
  • Crowd free: Usually buffer zone safari is second choice thus if you are fedup of safari vehicle crowd at core zones, then do relaxed safari at buffer zone forest.
  • Low cost safaris: Safari permit cost of core zones are almost double to buffer zones thus core zone safaris is not in budget for low budget tourists. Buffer zones are good option for such visitors to enjoy jungle safaris at low cost.
