INTRODUCTION

Best time to visit Tadoba national park Tadoba National Park often called as 'Jewel of Vidharba', the Tadoba national park is Maharashtra's oldest national park. This 116.55 sq km park lies in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. Tadoba national park becomes existed in 1955 and it was named after a local deity Taru, venerated by the tribes. According to mythology, Taru was a village head who was killed in encounter with a tiger. The shrine dedicated to God Taru, is located on the banks of the Tadoba Lake.

The park was declared as a Project Tiger reserve in 1993. It is one of the best tiger reserves of India as tiger population has increased rapidly. Combination of Tadoba National Park and Andhari wildlife sanctuary forms the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR). For the convenience of tourists, jungle safaris are organized to facilitate tiger spotting. Apart from tigers, you can also spot leopards, gaur, wild dogs, sloth bears, and jungle cats, hyenas, sambar, chital, Nilgai and barking deer. The park is also home to about 181 species of birds, which includes endangered and water birds. One can also spot marsh crocodiles and migratory ducks around the Tadoba Lake. Tadoba tiger reserve has high rate of man tiger conflict. Several instances have also been reported of wildlife killing domestic livestock.

Still probability is high in Summer season i.e. from February to June month. It is the best time for tiger sighting due to which wildlife photographers prefers to visit this national park in this period. In compare to other tiger reserves like Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, here in Tadoba, summer season is more challenging due to high temperature and arid zone. Here average rainfall is less and thus we will hardly find swimming pool in budget and standard category of resorts.

Best time for Birding

Just like any other bird sanctuaries of India, here also winter period is considered as the good time bird watching. Here in Tadoba national park, winter season can be observed from December to February month. Their are many marshy land and waterholes in Tadoba forest where birding is good like Telia dam, Irai lake, Panchdhara, Kala Amb, Kolsa tank, Tadoba lakeside etc.

Post monsoon is also a good time to visit Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary If you want to enjoy the greenery of beautiful forest at the time when the jungle becomes lush green and is filled with flowers. Also end of December is holiday season getting tickets might be an issue. If you are planning for late December, please book as early as 120 days to avoid last minute disappointment. If you are one of those who like to enjoy the forest and the tigers in solitude, avoid late December.
