Bandhavgarh National Park


Bandhavgarh Safari Booking Bandhavgarh was a hunting ground for the Maharajas of Rewa, this National Park is world-renowned as a tiger reserve. Bandhavgarh National Park was shikargah of Maharaja of Rewa then it was not declared as a national park. The Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh is a beautiful forest with wildlife and vegetation in abundance. Bandhavgarh is known to have the highest density of Royal Bengal Tigers in the world and the frequent sightings of royal tigers make this national park a must-visit for all wildlife enthusiasts. In 2012, around 44-49 tigers were living in the park. There are more than 22 species of mammals and 250 species of avifauna. Here jungle safari is the main visitor attraction during which we can explore its hidden treasure of mammals, birds, reptiles, trees, beautiful landscapes. Among the carnivores, Tigers, Asiatic Jackals, foxes, Sloth bears, Wild Boar, ratels, gray mongoose, striped hyenas, jungle cats, and leopards are found here. Deer, monkeys, Wild boars, Nilgai, Chinkara, and Gaur, are also found here. A jeep safari into the park can take for a ride through adventure and enjoyment. The park got its name from the Bandhavgarh fort situated at the height of 800 m high cliffs nearby. The fort is in ruins now, but an hour trek to the fort is worth it as it provides a generous view of surroundings.

Jungle Safari in Bandhavgarh

Wildlife safari timing in Bandhavgarh national park is just like most parks in the country. October to May is the ideal time for visiting the national park. Unlike any other national park, there are three types of safaris offered by the authorities - jeep, canter and elephant. Jeep and canter safaris are more popular among the tourists because it is easily available and cheaper than the elephant safari. Elephant safaris are considered safer and much more adventurous because the majestic mammal takes the visitors very close to the tiger if spotted. Since it's costly and requires more formalities to be completed, it is not accessible to every tourist. Timings for entry into, and exit from, the park vary according to the season. In winters, due to the shorter duration of daylight hours, the morning entry time is later and evening exit time is earlier.

Jungle safari is the main attraction of any wildlife tour. Tourists can do jungle safaris in Bandhavgarh national park. In a day, two rounds of safari drivers are allowed inside the core-zone of park. On every Wednesday, park remains closed for evening safari drives. Here in Bandhavgarh, safari area is divided into three safari zones i.e. Tala zone (Gate-1), Magadhi zone (Gate-2) and Khitauli zone (Gate-3). Among them Tala zone is the oldest safari zone and other two zones were opened later due to increase in tourists arrival. Jungle safari is a paid service in Bandhavgarh for which tourists are required to acquire entrance ticket/s in which all visitors name, age, gender, country and identity document details are given. All the visitors are required to carry their original identity document during safari drives as it is verified at the entrance gate. Safari tickets are non-transferable. During safari drive, guide service is compulsory on each safari vehicle. Here safaris are done on open safari jeeps and canters. Maximum 06 person are allowed to sit in a safari jeep and 12 tourists are allowed in a safari canter vehicle

Bandhavgarh is best to visited in the dry season, from October to May. Jeep Safaris take place twice a day in the Bandhavgarh. Number of jeeps is fixed for every safari zone. The Morning Shift which starts early at the time of Sunrise up to 04 hrs & the afternoon one starts in between 02 PM to 03 PM up to sunset. In each Open Jeep 6 passengers are allowed to travel along with one naturalist and one driver. Limited Jeeps are permitted to enter inside the National Park in each shift. This has been done to avoid overcrowding inside the national Park. Therefore it is advisable to book safari rides in well advance to avoid any chance of unavailability.

Bandhavgarh Safari Timing

Here we have shared information about Bandhavgarh safari timing. Given information is about jeep safari drives. Two rounds of safaris are offered on each day, except every Wednesday on which evening safari drive remain closed for visitors. Safari timing is decided as per timing of sunrise and sunset thus it changes with season.

Now a days, elephant safari in Bandhavgarh is rarely seen as elephants are primarily used for patrolling purpose. On record, two types of elephant rides are offered in Bandhavgarh. First is joy-ride which is of 30 minutes and affordable to normal tourist and second one is 3-hours ride offered to wildlife photographers or documentary makers like BBC etc. This permission is given to those tourists who have booked full-day gypsy safari ride which means it is not for normal tourists. Elephant safari booking process is not much transparent and influence of luxury resort operators works here. Due to associated uncertainty of getting elephant ride permission, everyone is reluctant of promoting elephant safaris in Bandhavgarh. For booking joy-ride, visitor have to apply 24hrs in advance where as for 3hrs ride, tourists are required to apply 15-20 days in advance, by filling up booking-form but result will be revealed 24hrs before requested date which shows its uncertain nature and thus can't be assured in advance to any visitor. Forest department have very few elephants whose primary duty is patrolling. It is discretionary power of Field director to allow or reject our application, according to availability of elephants.

Canter Safari

Here Canter safari is also one of the option to undertake jungle safari. Canter is nothing but a open bus (18-seater) in which safari is done. This safari can't be booked online and mostly done on the spot due to which it is not popular among visitors. Visitors don't want to reach Bandhavgarh without any assurance of getting this safari thus its success is limited.
