Kanha National Park Weather

Weather and Climatic condition play important role in any Wildlife Tour. Kanha National Park is located in Madhya Pradesh State of Central India. National Park remains open from 16th October to 30th June for wildlife safari. Like most of the forest of Central India, the weather and climate of Kanha Tiger reserve is extreme and tropical. In Kanha and surrounding areas, summers are extremely hot and the maximum temperature goes as high as 48° Celsius, while the weather during winter remains cold and sometime mercury dips to zero degree celsius. During the Monsoon season, Kanha receives heavy rains and there is water everywhere in the forest.

For wildlife photographers and those who are really interested in watching wildlife, birds etc. months of February - March - April are best as during that time Kanha forest was full of flowers, fruit etc which causes wild animals like spotted deer, antelopes, sloth bear, wild boar to come in open. Similarly tigers can also be seen close to water, dry grasslands in search of prey etc. In summers, wild grass dried up which enhances the visibility to far which means better chance for photography. It is suggested to carry sun-glasses, hat/cap, sun-screen lotions during summer as sunlight falls straight and often causes itching on exposed skin. Those who are interested in reptiles, should visit Kanha in rainy season i.e. in end of June or in October as reptiles come out in rainy season.
